If you're reading this, I'm not coming home
They sent me somewhere I had to go alone
There's a folded flag and a knock at your door
But I need you to know, I'm not gone for sure
If you're reading this, I'm watching you grow
From a sky I never wanted to know
Tell the kids I love them every night
And hold them when the thunder steals the light
I left not for glory, not medals or fame
But to shield the ones who carry my name
So if you stand beneath the red, white, and the blue
Know I bled and died thinking of you
If you're reading this, don't carry the blame
It was duty, not you, that whispered my name
Lay a flower down, say a prayer if you must
Then live for me — love, laugh, and trust
If you're reading this, just one last line:
I’ll wait for you beyond space and time
Until that day when we reunite
I’ll be the silence in your darkest night
