I'm not proud

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life And I had to start again with just my children and my wife, I'd thank my lucky stars to get the hell away, 'Cause the flag don’t stand for freedom anymore — they took that away. And I’m not proud to be an American when the innocent aren’t free, And I won’t forget the man who lies and lies endlessly, And I’ll gladly stand up next to you and protest him still today, 'Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land — this God‑forsaken USA. From the Gulf of America to the hills of Tennessee, Across the plains of Texas, where they’re hauling detainees, From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A., Well, there's shame deep in this American heart While ICE hauls children away. And I’m appalled to be an American when the president rules by decree, And I won’t forget the man who tried to k**l our democracy, And I’ll gladly stand up next to you to oppose him still today, 'Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land — this God‑forsaken USA. And I’m afraid to be an American when I’m no longer sure I’m free, And I don’t know how long it will be till he comes after me, But I’ll gladly stand up next to you until they drag me away, 'Cause there ain’t no doubt I’ll let fascists take my God-damned USA.
