(Verse 1: Ch. 6 & Ch. 7 - Behavior & Input) The process starts with action, a change we want to see, A consequence that follows, shaping what we're meant to be. That's the power of Operant Conditioning, the reward or the cost, Voluntary habits forming, so no effort is lost. But first, the data must be caught, before the change takes hold, Encoding converts the lesson, a story to be told. From sensory to storage, making the connection strong, We capture what we need to keep, where it truly belongs. (Chorus: The Learning Cycle) It's the Learning Cycle, spinning 'round and 'round, From the structure in the cortex to the thought in every sound. Six chapters of psychology, all working in the flow, How we grow and how we master everything we know. (Verse 2: Ch. 2 & Ch. 4 - Biology & Rest) The brain is not a static thing, it’s built to rearrange, Neuroplasticity allows the fundamental change. New pathways light and strengthen, connections start to bloom, Without this core flexibility, we’d be stuck inside one room. And after the day’s intake, when the lights are low and dim, Memory Consolidation happens, deep inside the sleep we’re in. Replaying fragile fragments, from short to long-term store, Resting isn't wasted time, it's learning's powerful core. (Chorus: The Learning Cycle) It's the Learning Cycle, spinning 'round and 'round, From the structure in the cortex to the thought in every sound. Six chapters of psychology, all working in the flow, How we grow and how we master everything we know. (Bridge: Ch. 3 & Ch. 1 - Filtering & Evaluation) But wait, we can't absorb it all, the world is too immense, Selective Attention guards against the sensory offense. We filter out the background noise, the details we ignore, The gatekeeper of cognition, only letting in the core. And once the knowledge is inside, the final step we take, Critical Thinking for our own understanding's sake. Questioning assumptions, evaluating the sign, Turning simple information into knowledge that is truly mine. (Outro) Operant, Encoding, Neuroplasticity, Consolidation, Selective Attention, and Critical Thinking. The Learning Cycle is complete, the knowledge now resides, The whole of Introduction to Psych, that’s where the wisdom hides.
