— [Verse 1] Once upon a midmorn glowing, while I wandered, lightly knowing, Through a book with breezes blowing—stories soft as ocean’s roar— While I hummed in gentle drifting, sudden sunbeams started sifting, Set my soul to slowly lifting, dancing near my chamber door— “Just the wind,” I said, daydreaming, “playing near my chamber door— Only that, and nothing more.” — [Verse 2] Oh, I still recall the hour, full of calm and golden power, As the sunlight touched each flower spilling warmth across the floor. Longing for some light unending—not the kind that needs defending— But the type the stars keep sending just beyond this earthly shore— From a place of peace ascending just beyond this earthly shore— Smiling deep—I asked for more. — [Verse 3] And the silky curtains fluttered while my steady spirit muttered, “There’s a whisper in that rhythm, something soft I can’t ignore.” To the doorway I was gliding, heart in open arms abiding— “All is well,” I breathed, deciding, “just a knock upon my door— Just a friend or breeze colliding, tapping gently on my door— Let me see, and nothing more.” — [Chorus – (sung, airy)] Then the Crane came floating in, Wings of white and peace within, Perched above my oaken door— Feathers bright forevermore
Not a shadow, not a chore— Just the light
forevermore. — [Verse 4] Not a squawk and not a flutter, just a hush too deep to utter, Perched upon my crystal sculpture just above the oaken door. Eyes like lakes that knew no trouble, gaze that burst my fear to bubble, Like a prayer turned into double joy I’d never felt before— In its stillness was an answer I had never touched before— Still it perched, and nothing more. — [Verse 5] Then this bright-winged apparition, calm as breath in meditation, Spoke without a sound—transmission, flowing through my inner core: “Though the world may twist and shiver, love and joy run like a river— Flowing through the soul forever, past the pain and through the door— Love is with us, 4 ever more!
