A Lesson to be Learned

Walking through these halls, it’s a surreal blast A black-and-white reel from my childhood past Polished linoleum, those heavy oak doors And the ghost of my footsteps on these echoing floors. Tiny little drawers where I kept all my dreams Everything’s different, but it’s just what it seems. There’s a frequency here, a vibration in the air I’m back in this building ‘cause I left something there Yeah, I can feel it... there’s a lesson to be learned We all carry burdens that can’t be returned Just a student of life, trying to find my way back home. There’s the rusty fountain where the water tasted like lead And that hill out back where the "mountain" lived in my head I was formed in this dirt, I was raised in this light Before the world got heavy and the days turned to night I can still see my teacher, eyes full of fire Igniting a spark, fueling a higher desire. I can feel it in my bones, vibrating in my soul Some answers are hidden in these gray stone walls That’s why I’m walking these grounds tonight Chasing the shadows, looking for the light Waiting for that bell, that penetrating sound Reminding me that time... it never slows down. Yeah, I can feel it... there’s a lesson to be learned We all carry burdens that can’t be returned Just a student of life, trying to find my way back home.
