Front porch light

She kept a Bible by the window, And sweet tea on the stove, Knitted love in every blanket, And stories in every loaf. She’d hum Amazing Grace at dawn, While hanging up the wash, And teach you right from wrong With a look, not talkin’ much. That front porch light was always on, No matter how late I got home. She’d wait with a rocking chair and smile, Said, “You ain't never really gone.” With arms wide open, and a heart that forgives, She gave more love than most folks live. Oh, the world felt right, Under Grandma’s front porch light. She lost Grandpa back in '94, Still set his place at the table, Said, “The ones we love don’t leave us, They're just waitin' if we're able.” She’d dance slow in the kitchen To an old Patsy Cline cassette, And every scar she ever had She wore without regret. That front porch light was always on, No matter how far I had gone. She’d say, “Life gets heavy, child, I know— But your roots’ll keep you strong.” With arms wide open, and a heart that forgives, She gave more love than most folks live. Oh, the stars shined bright, Under Grandma’s front porch light. Now that old house is quiet, But I swear I still feel her near. When I’m lost, I close my eyes, And her voice is crystal clear: “That front porch light’s still burnin’ on, Just follow your heart and come on home.” She’s there in the wind, in every song, That says you’re never alone. With arms wide open, and a soul full of grace, She made this world a better place. Yeah, heaven's got a front porch light, And Grandma’s rockin’ there tonight.
