The Sky Beneath the Heather
5/15/2025Aria v1
Lie down, mo ghrà idh, in the hush of the glen,
Where time folds its wings and the stars drift again.
The hills are your cradle, the breeze is your tune,
And the owls sing soft to the sliver of moon.
⸻
The bracken lies still by the old rowan tree,
Its roots hold the dreams of your kin and of me.
I’ll watch while you wander through meadows of rest,
With my love on your brow, like a charm on your chest.
⸻
Sleep where the sky lies beneath the heather,
Bound not by time, nor storm, nor tether.
The loch will keep your slumber deep,
And I’ll be near while the spirits sleep.
⸻
The deer on the hillside have bowed for the night,
The fox in the shadow won’t give you a fright.
The wind from the bens sings a lullaby low,
Through the braes where the old fairy fires still glow.
⸻
There’s a boat made of moonlight that waits on the shore,
To carry your dreams where the wild ones soar.
A selkie will guide it through silver and blue,
And whisper the names of the ones who love you.
⸻
Sleep where the stones remember the song,
Where old tales hum as the tides move along.
The peat smoke fades, the crows take flight,
And I’ll hold your hand through the length of night.
⸻
If you should stir and the night feels too wide,
Call on my name—I will be by your side.
I’ll rock every hour and hush every fear,
In the hush of the Highlands, I’ll always be near.
⸻
The stags on the ridge lift their eyes to the wind,
And the heather breathes soft where your dreams begin.
The kelpies don’t ride when the stars rise so bright,
For even old magic is gentle tonight.
⸻
Sleep where the sky lies beneath the heather,
Wrapped in my love, forever and ever.
The mist will guard, the birch will sway,
And I’ll sing to you ‘til the break of day.
⸻
So close your eyes, and drift, and go—
To where love walks quiet and stars h**g low.
You are safe, you are warm, you are always mine,
In this lullaby land beyond shadow and time
